These regular events aim to bring together those interested in weeds, native plants, and natural history. What: ‘Weedy Cacti in Australia’ informative talk from Australia’s top cacti specialist Bob Chinnock, with worthwhile conversation, weed identification, plant discussion, nibbles, drinks, and fun.
When: Monday 14 October, at 5-7 PM.
Where: Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Goodman Lecture theatre, Hackney Road, (opposite the old Tram Barn).
Who: You! Members and non members welcome. These events welcome anyone with an interest in weeds and natives plants.
What to bring: Compulsory: You and your friends and family. Optional: Interesting or unknown weeds or native plants for identification and discussion; a plate to share, and something to drink.
Our speaker: Dr Bob Chinnock is Australia’s leading cacti specialist. Bob has spent his whole career in botanical research, mostly based at the State Herbarium of South Australia in Adelaide. He specialises in native plant taxonomy and has described many new species, producing the seminal work on Myoporum. Bob is also a fern specialist, and well informed on Australian native succulents, currently working on the Australian genus Gunniopsis, now describing many new species in this group. He is the authority on cacti in Australia including the invasive opuntiod Cacti that are Weeds of National Significance (WoNS) in all states and territories.
